CDO Commodities/Chemrez Strengthen Ties with TAFWA and TUCOFA Cooperatives
Tacul, Magsaysay, Davao del Sur / Batasan, North Cotabato – June 23, 2025
CDO Commodities/Chemrez conducted a visit to the TAFWA and TUCOFA cooperatives to strengthen partnerships and review the copra delivery process. The meeting aimed to streamline coordination between local coconut farmers and the company’s processing operations, ensuring a more efficient and mutually beneficial supply chain.
The event was facilitated by the Integrated Rural Development Foundation (IRDF), which played a vital role in bringing together all stakeholders. IRDF continues to support local cooperatives by fostering connections with industry players and promoting sustainable agricultural development in coconut-growing communities.
Leading the discussion was Benlie Vinluan of CDO Commodities, who reiterated the company’s commitment to empowering coconut farmers. He explained that CDO operates a key oil mill in GSL, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, along with two additional facilities in Luzon. Since leasing the Buena Coco oil mill in September 2022, CDO has significantly upgraded the facility to meet strict international standards set by markets such as the United States, European Union, Japan, and Canada.
The modernized plant is capable of processing 3,250 metric tons of copra, yielding around 1,982 metric tons of coconut oil. Of this, 1,300 metric tons are Bleached Deodorized Refined (BDR) oil, ready for export and domestic use. The facility also houses four storage tanks with a combined capacity of 1,100 metric tons and a storage area for 200 metric tons of copra cake. Additionally, CDO manages a 2,600-hectare organic coconut farm located in Don Marcelino and Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental.
During the visit, Benlie walked participants through the entire copra delivery process—from pre-inspection and grading to unloading, weighing, and storage. He also detailed the company’s milling and refining stages, ensuring transparency in the journey from raw copra to high-quality, market-ready refined coconut oil.
The meeting highlighted the valuable role of collaboration among private industry, cooperatives, and development organizations. It reaffirmed CDO Commodities’ dedication to quality, sustainability, and fair trade, strengthening its partnership with grassroots coconut producers and contributing to the growth of the agricultural sector.
