Twenty farmers from Poblacion and nearby barangays participated in a one-day training on Inland Fishery and Farm-Based Resource Management, held at Joselito’s Function Hall, Barangay Poblacion, Kidapawan City. The initiative was made possible through a partnership between the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region XII and the Integrated Rural Development Foundation (IRDF).
The training aimed to equip farmers with practical skills to diversify their income by utilizing both land and water resources within their farms. A key feature of the session was the live demonstration on Tilapia Lamayo processing, a value-adding technique that transforms fresh Tilapia into a marinated, sun-dried product with strong market appeal.
BFAR specialists, guided participants through pond management, sustainable fishery practices, and small-scale enterprise development. Farmers expressed enthusiasm for integrating aquaculture into their existing farm systems.
“This training helped us see new possibilities,” shared one participant. “With proper guidance, we can turn even small ponds into sources of livelihood.”
The event reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen rural economies through technical support, community empowerment, and sustainable resource use.
