Gender equality is not just a basic human right, but also a prerequisite for a peaceful, affluent, and sustainable planet. Women and girls account for half of the world’s population, and thus half of its potential. However, gender inequality continues everywhere and stifles social progress. Sexual abuse and exploitation, unfair distribution of unpaid care and domestic work, and prejudice in public office are all significant impediments.
